Call for Members

Artist Advisory Committee

*Deadline EXTENDED* Calling artists across Canada, to sit on our Artist Advisory Committee. Individuals who sit on this committee represent cross-provincial, interdisciplinary interests, and make core decisions with the Board of Directors, in regard to the overall direction of Perlin Foundation for Wellbeing (PFW). Our advisory committee is integrated with our board infrastructure, in order to maintain a consistent representation of artists, to help guide decisions on how to maintain best practices for the community.

We ask you to consider the opportunity to to deliberate, make decisions, advise, provide strategic oversight, and to serve as the primary “advocate” for all the artist-related initiatives. We aim to improve the artist ecosystem through a process of innovative events, taking culture and practice into consideration when setting policy. This call is going out across Canada, as we are developing our festivals to travel across the country and beyond.

Under representation of the artists on committees stymies the ability to engage with or represent current artistic practice.” (source)

PFW is a public research foundation,

working to establish annual events and a fundraising festival that celebrates mental health, mental wellness, and those affected by mental illness. As we establish operations and continue the discovery process, our development path allows us to meaningfully contribute to the ecosystems we serve.

We work to increase our understanding of how arts & culture relates to:

  • Perceived individual health status,

  • Actioning public health behaviours, and

  • Healing, within the context of forgiveness, across various cultures.

Through sharing our research, facts, and ideas, the public as a whole has a better chance of creating their own informed opinions that can effectively meet the needs of civic rights and responsibility.

Further to this, we believe that the designed narratives featuring local art and culture at key touch-points can be used to express these ideas to the public, more effectively than a singular communications strategy.

By gathering Calgarians together each year, we nurture these conversations through a series of Mind/Art Adventures, toward successfully launching the festival proper in Calgary between 2025-2027. We continue prototype development in 2021, with the first edition being presented August 27- 29, 2021.

Calgary Bliss & Mind/Art Adventures currently consist of:

  • Festival Prototype Design (now refined to a series of Mind/Art Adventures)

  • Festival Narrative (with integrated mental health information components)

  • Online Virtual Art Competition

  • Open-Air Art Exhibit expressing the Festival Narrative on St. Patrick’s Island

  • Illustrated slides expressing the Festival Narrative.

Methodology of the Hero’s Journey (HJ) stations (anticipating 2022-23 dates):

The intent of these checkpoints is to focus on the art making an emotional impact, or addressing a communal belief, or crafting a sensory experience. We assure that any completed materials presented by the artist (plans, design, maquettes, etc) will remain the exclusive property and copyright of the artist, and will be returned in good order

These stations will be a variety of scenarios, including but not limited to:

  • Live actors playing out a scene,

  • Designed space with interactive components,

  • 2-dimensional art,

  • 3-dimensional art,

  • Projected visual art onto staged design elements.

“Calgarians are enthusiastic about art and want to see all kinds of art in many different locations.” (source)

In order for us to establish and maintain the capacity to support the artist ecosystem, we need a group of artists that are consistently feeding into the decision-making processes. It would be a privilege to consider your legacy as an artist, as a contribution to the legacy of our Foundation. For more information, please see our website at perlinfoundation.com
